Crafting Engineering Strategy

Will Larson (2025) provides a framework for making technical decisions that stick. He treats strategy as a tool for making trade-offs rather than a vague vision statement.

The book is particularly useful for its focus on operational mechanisms - the "plumbing" like dashboards, rubrics, and alerts that change how a team behaves. From my perspective, this is where engineering meets psychology and HR. It is about building an environment where the right technical choices happen naturally because the incentives and feedback loops are correctly aligned.
